Sepsis carries a high mortality rate, and current treatments often fail to address the underlying immune dysregulation. In this study, extracorporeal ozone blood treatment was tested in a animal model of Pseudomonas aeruginosa septic shock. The treatment reduced bacterial load during circulation through the system and significantly decreased proinflammatory cytokines.

Indicators suggested improved lung function and reduced vascular permeability in the treated group, although survival time did not differ significantly. These findings suggest that ozone treatment may have immunomodulatory benefits and warrant further investigation for clinical application.
